Note: Due to the incompatible semester times of Germany and America, the courses take place exclusively with Fresenius students. You will however be taught by local lecturers.
In the week before the start of classes, the host universities hold orientation sessions.

- Your grade point average at Hochschule Fresenius is at least 3.6
- You pass the English test, offered by Hochschule Fresenius, with a level of B2 or better. The test will be administered online after the application deadline. If you have at least a B2 English level and can provide an official language certificate, which is not older than two years, you will be exempted from the test. Please then forward the certificate to us together with your application.
- Participation incl. credit for exams is possible for the following study programs: Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Risiko- und Sicherheitsmanagement, Mobilitätswirtschaft, Immobilienwirtschaft, Wirtschaftsinformatik, Sportmanagement, Medienmanagement und Digitales Marketing, Musikmanagement, Wirtschaftspsychologie, Philosophie, Politik und Wirtschaft, Psychologie, International Business Management, Tourismus- Hotel- und Eventmanagement, International Business, Mode & Design Management, Fashion & Design Management
You will continue to pay your regular tuition fees at Hochschule Fresenius during the semester abroad, as you will still be enrolled. In addition, after signing the contract for the semester abroad, you will pay a one-time payment for the entire semester abroad, which covers, among other things, the tuition fees at our partner universities. In addition, there are costs for the visa, flight, accommodation, insurance and living on site. Please note: Since the semester abroad is mandatory in the study program Tourism, Hotel and Event Management B.A., neither an additional contract nor a one-time payment is required. Students of the study program International Business Management B.A., in which two semesters abroad are mandatory, may receive an additional contract and make a one-time payment depending on the choice of destinations.
FAQ
For the semester abroad in the US you will need the so called J1 – Exchange Visitor Visa for students. Your program coordinator will guide you step by step through the visa process. Please find below some basic information.
J1 Visa at a glance
- Entry to the US possible up to 30 days before the start of lectures
- Departure up to 30 days after end of lectures
- After the semester, it is possible to do a (payed) internship of max. 3 months. In this case, you may leave the country up to 30 days after the end of the internship.
- A part from the internship, working is not permitted with the J1 visa.
- In order to apply for the visa, students need the sponsorship of the host university. Which of the two New York partner Universities acts as your sponsor depends on your chosen major. Depending on your visa sponser, the documents and deadlines for the submission of the first documents differ slightly.

Please note: You do not need to submit the Proof of english Proficiency indicated in the form - Transcript of Records of Hochschule Fresenius; Available in the Examination Office / Student Services at your campus
- Copy of your school leaving certificate (= Abiturzeugnis)
- Immunization form – measles, mumps and rubella (download template here); It is mandatory to provide proof of measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations. The form must be completed, signed and stamped by your doctor. A copy of your vaccination card is not sufficient! If you no longer have your vaccination card, you must have your doctor determine the titer value and enter it on the form.

- Proof of financial means (download draft text here); Proof in English from your local bank of sufficient funds: a balance of at least $7,000.00 must be shown. If you want to do an internship, you must show 14,000.00 US dollars. It is mandatory that your name (or that of your parents), the account number, and the amount be on the bank statement. The proof must be printed on the bank’s letterhead and signed.

If your documents are well prepared, the program coordinator will provide you with a link through which you need to submit your documents to the host university.
After successful upload, the host university will prepare the DS-2019 document, which is required for further visa application. As soon as the DS-2019 is available, the International Office will inform you about the next steps (payment of visa fees, online application and interview appointment at the US Embassy/Consulate).

Shortly after, the host university will provide you with a link through which you need to submit your documents.

You are responsible for booking your own flight. You will be informed about the optimal arrival time by the International Office as soon as you have received a confirmation from Berkeley College / Pace University. Common airlines for this route are Lufthansa, United, KLM, DELTA, AirFrance and Singapore Airlines.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to accomodate the participants in student residences, so they have to arrange their own accommodation. Information material to help you get started with your housing search will be provided. There is also the opportunity to connect with current program participants to get first-hand tips and program participants from one’s group to look for accommodation together and share flats.
