PROMOS Scholarship

Are you planning an individual stay abroad outside the EU? The PROMOS scholarship makes it possible for you to study or do an internship abroad. Study trips or theses abroad are also possible. With the PROMOS funds provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Hochschule Fresenius has created its own scholarship program with funding priorities. Through the program, your student mobility is increased. The PROMOS program generally supports stays abroad outside the EU.

What is funded?

  • Minimum stay of three months
  • Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
  • Preference will be given to individual mobility
  • The study visit must take place outside Europe or at a European university that is not an Erasmus partner university
  • Unfortunately, tuition fees cannot be covered
  • Minimum stay of two months
  • Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
  • The internship stay must take place outside Europe (all EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey are excluded from funding)
  • Exceptionally, internships can also be funded in the period between the Bachelor’s degree and the start of the Master’s program; the prerequisite here is that admission to the Master’s program has been granted.
  • Minimum stay of three months
  • Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
  • The stay for writing the thesis must take place outside Europe or at a European university that is not an Erasmus partner university.
  • Group travel with a number of participants of 5 to 15 students and a duration of 5 to 12 days (must be accompanied by a university teacher).
  • Trips with a predominantly touristic program as well as lecture and congress trips are not supported.

Who can receive a PROMOS scholarship?

Students of Hochschule Fresenius with German citizenship or citizenship equivalent to German citizenship can apply for a PROMOS scholarship. Non-German students who are enrolled at a German university and aim to graduate there can also apply for a PROMOS scholarship. However, this does not include funding to the home country.

The selection for a scholarship is made on the basis of the submitted documents. Decisive criteria for the selection of scholarship holders are, among others, the academic performance, the meaningfulness of the stay abroad and the necessary language skills. In the case of equal suitability, preference will be given to applicants who do not receive remuneration from the host institution. Preference will also be given to those who have not received previous PROMOS funding.

By accepting a PROMOS scholarship, you agree to write a field report after your stay abroad.

How can i apply?

Application for a PROMOS scholarship is possible in the second semester at the earliest. The following application deadlines apply:

  • 15. January
  • 15. June

Please submit your application for a PROMOS scholarship via e-mail to claudia.roth@hs-fresenius.de with the following documents:

  • CV in tabular form
  • Letter of motivation explaining the planned stay (e.g. Why do you want to go abroad? Why to THIS country in particular? What is the added value of the stay abroad for your studies?)
  • Copies of previous certificates of achievement
  • If possible, additional documents proving your language skills, cultural knowledge and/or your social commitment.
  • Depending on which program you are applying for, you may need to submit additional documents or attend a selection interview
  • Proof of communication with the host institution (confirmation of place) as well as information about payment of wages or other subsidies by the host institution.

Please note: Incomplete application documents cannot be considered! The application must be submitted BEFORE the start of the stay abroad, subsequent funding is not possible.

How much is the funding amount?

You will receive a monthly stipend and/or a travel allowance. The amount of the grant depends on the destination country, see list here.

For group-study trips you receive 45 EUR per student per day.

The amount of the partial scholarships is influenced by the receipt of Auslands-BAföG.
